Wholesale Price Indices for Primary Articles and Fuel & Power in India (Base: 2004-05 = 100)Review for the week ended 4th September, 2010 (13 Bhadrapada, 1932 Saka)

New Delhi: September 16, 2010.

 

The WPI [with base year 2004-05] for the week ended 4th September, 2010 in respect of 'Primary Articles' and 'Fuel & Power' is given below:

 

PRIMARY ARTICLES (Weight 20.12%) 

 

The index for this major group rose by 0.2 percent to 178.4 (Provisional) from 178.0 (Provisional) for the previous week.

 

The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 16.22 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 04/09/2010 (over 05/09/2009) as compared to 15.43 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 28/08/2010). 

 

The groups and items for which the index showed variations during the week are as follows:-

 

The index for 'Food Articles' group rose by 0.3 percent to 178.4 (Provisional) from 177.8 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of fish-inland (3%) and fruits & vegetables, urad and condiments & spices (1% each).  However, the prices of arhar (5%) and maize, barley and moong (1% each) declined.

 

The index for 'Non-Food Articles' group rose by 0.1 percent to 153.3 (Provisional) from 153.2 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of raw silk (13%), raw rubber (3%) and copra (2%).  However, the prices of rape & mustard seed (4%), gingelly seed (sesamum) (2%) and castor seed and fodder (1% each) declined.

 

FUEL & POWER (Weight 14.91%)

 

The index for this major group declined by 0.4 percent to 147.6(Provisional) from 148.2 (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of aviation turbine fuel (5%) and naphtha, bitumen and furnace oil (2% each). However, the price of light diesel oil (1%) moved up.  

 

The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 11.48 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 04/09/2010 (over 05/09/2009) as compared to 12.61 percent (Provisional) for the previous week (ended 28/08/2010).

World's Oldest Working Steam Engine 'Fairy Queen' Ready to Haul Heritage Train Once Again

New Delhi: September 16, 2010.

 

The 'Fairy Queen', the oldest surviving functional steam engine in the world is once again ready in this season to haul a heritage train from National Capital Delhi to Sariska National Park, Alwar, Rajasthan. This train, which is a great attraction among steam engine lovers across the globe, will run between Delhi Cantt. Station and Alwar from 23rd October 2010 to 12th March 2011. However, Northern Railway plans to run an additional trip on 9th October 2010 during the Commonwealth Games.


In this heritage travel, Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation will provide a comprehensive two-day tourist package including on ground catering, boarding, lodging transfer facilities, visit to Sariska National Park, cultural programmes etc. The Fairy Queen train would depart from Delhi Cantt. on day one at 09.00 a.m. to reach Alwar at 3.00 p.m. the same day, and the passengers would be lodged in Hotel "Tiger Den" at Sariska, as has been done in the past. On day two, the train will depart from Alwar at 1.00 p.m. (noon) to reach Delhi Cantt. at 6.45 p.m. the same day. It will stop for 10 minutes each at Garhi Harasuru, Pataudi Road, Rewari, Ajarka and Khairthal stations enroute in both the directions.


Tariff for full package would be Rs. 10,200/- per adult & Rs. 5,100/- for a child (half fare). Journey between Delhi and Alwar with sight seeing and stay at Sariska would be Rs. 7,100/- per adult and Rs. 3,550/- for a child while one way train journey between Delhi and Alwar only would be Rs. 3,200/- per adult and Rs. 1,600/- per child.

The tourist train will take about 2 trips every month from Oct 2010 to arch 2011. The first trip will commence on 23rd October 2010 and the subsequent trips will be on 13th Nov, 27th Nov, 11th Dec., 25th Dec., 8th Jan 2011, 22nd Jan, 12th Feb., 26th Feb. and the last rip would be on 12th March 2011.
