Veteran Film Producer Dr. D.Ramanaidu to be Honoured With Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the Year 2009
New Delhi: September 9, 2010.
The Legendary and veteran film producer from Andhra Pradesh, Dr. D. Ramanaidu has been conferred the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2009. The award is conferred by the Government of India for outstanding contribution in the field of Indian Cinema. The award consists of a Swarn Kamal, a cash prize of Rs.10 lakhs and a shawl. The award is given on the basis of recommendations of a Committee of eminent persons. The award will be given at the National Films Awards Function scheduled to be held in October this year.
Born in Karamchedu in Prakasam District of Andhra Pradesh in 1936, Dr. Ramanaidu entered the film world in 1963 with his first film 'Anuragam', followed by the super hit film 'Ramudu-Bheemudu' starring NTR in 1964. Over the last 47 years, he has been a prolific producer of over 130 films in several Indian languages and finds mention in the Guinness Book of Records.
Apart from Telugu films, he has the distinction of producing movies in Hindi, Bengali, Oriya, Assamese, Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Gujarati, Marathi and Bhojpuri. Dr. Ramanaidu has won various laurels for his films. His film, "Surigadu" was selected for the Indian Panorama in 1993. "Asukh", a Bengali film won the National Award for the Best Film in 1999. Apart from this, the films of the veteran artist have been honoured with several awards from the Andhra Pradesh Government.
The galaxy of artistes who have worked in his films include N T Rama Rao, A. Nageswara Rao, Sivaji Ganesan, Pandari Bai, Jamuna, Padmini, Sobhan Babu, Kamal Haasan, Jayaprada, Chiranjeevi, Rajnikanth, Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini, Rekha, Jeetendra and Sreedevi.
Dr. Ramanaidu has built an envious track record in the film world for having introduced numerous film directors as well as artistes and technicians. A few well known artistes introduced by him include Venkatesh, Harish, Vanisri, Aryan Rajesh, Tabu, Khushboo, Allari Naresh and Malasree.

Dr. Ramanaidu has also produced a film titled 'Hamari Beti' in Hindi which focuses on how handicapped people can lead a normal life and achieve their goals. The protagonist in the film is a girl who is severely handicapped in real life. This film has been screened in International Film Festivals like Chicago and Venice.
Apart from the above, Dr Ramanaidu has set up studios, recording, preview and dubbing theatres and laboratories in Hyderabad and Vishakapatnam. During his entire career span, Dr. Ramanaidu has been associated with every aspect of film making, thereby delivering a bouquet of entertaining films to the people.

Transfer of Judges of High Courts

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer (i) Shri Justice Arun Kumar Mishra, Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court as a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court and (ii) Shri Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Judge of the Gauhati High Court, as a Judge of the Punjab & Haryana High Court, with effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices on or before 14th September,2010.

Selection of Candidates for the 'Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students' Finalized for the Year 2009-10
The Process of Selection of Candidates for the Current Year to Begin Soon
New Delhi: September 9, 2010.
The process of selection of candidates for the 'Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students' has been finalized for the year 2009-10. Under it out of 756 scholarships, candidates for 755 have been selected. 'Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students' is a scheme launched by the Ministry of Minority Affairs during last Financial Year for research studies leading to regular and full time M.Phil and Ph.D. courses. University Grants Commission (UGC) is the Nodal Agency for implementing this scheme and an amount of Rs. 14.90 crore has been placed at its disposal by the Ministry for award of fellowships for the year 2009-10.
The community wise distribution of the fellowships granted for the year 2009-10 is as follows:
Muslims- 539; Christians- 101; Sikhs- 80; Buddhist- 34; Parsis- 1.
The list of selected candidates is available on the official website of the Ministry of Minority Affairs and UGC. The objective of the Scheme is to provide fellowships in the form of financial assistance to students from five notified minority communities viz. Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi. UGC will select afresh 756 candidates for award of fellowships for the year 2010-11 for which advertisements would be released shortly. A provision of Rs. 30 crore has been made in the Budget for the year 2010-11 for this Scheme.

Smt. Sonia Gandhi Dedicates to the Nation the 980 MW Stage-li of National Capital Thermal Power Project, Dadri
New Delhi: September 9, 2010.
Smt. Sonia Gandhi has congratulated NTPC for completing Stage-II of the 'National Capital Thermal Power Project, Dadri' well before the beginning of the Commonwealth Games 2010. Dedicating to the nation the 980 MW (2x490 MW) Stage- II of the Project – which is specifically meant to meet the power requirements of the Commonwealth Games - here today Smt. Gandhi, Chairperson, U.P.A. said that it is a matter of great pride that the work of this Stage was completed in a record time of only 39 months. Emphasizing the importance of electricity in the fast development and progress of a nation, Smt. Gandhi said that we need to tap various sources for producing electricity. But she also said that such production should not be at the cost of environment and as such the power production should be 'clean'. In this context, the U.P.A. Chairperson said that though land acquisition is necessary for developmental projects but it should not involve large tracts of agricultural lands; as that would compromise food production, and the entire process should also be such that it doesn't adversely affect the farmers and other people.
Stage-I of the 'National Capital Thermal Power Project, Dadri' was already producing 840 MW (through 4 Units, each of 210 MW capacity) and now with the dedication of this 980 MW (through 2 Units, each of 490 MW capacity) Stage-II, the 'National Capital Thermal Power Project, Dadri' has achieved a total capacity of 2637 MW as its Gas Based Station is producing 817 MW.
Presiding over the function Shri Sushilkumar Shinde, Union Minister of Power, said that with the objective of providing adequate and reliable power to all, his Ministry has set a challenging target of adding more than 62,000 MW during the 11th Plan which is three times higher than the capacity added during the 10th Plan. Shri Shinde said that 9,585 MW of capacity was added during 2009-10, which is the highest ever capacity addition achieved in a single year during the last sixty years and expressed confidence that during 2010-11 his Ministry will again add much higher capacity. Shri Bharatsinh Solanki, Minister of State for Power, and Shri P. Uma Shankar, Secretary in the Ministry of Power were also present on the occasion.

Indian Railways Carry 366.70 Million Tonnes of Freight During April-August 2010
New Delhi: September 9, 2010.
Indian Railways have carried 366.70 million tonnes of revenue earning freight traffic during April-August 2010. The freight carried shows an increase of 8.37 million tonnes over the freight traffic of 358.33 million tonnes actually carried during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 2.34 per cent.
During the month of August 2010, the revenue earning freight traffic carried by Indian Railways was 74.20 million tonnes. There is an increase of 0.88 million tonnes over the actual freight traffic of 73.32 million tonnes carried by the Indian Railways during the same period last year, showing an increase of 1.20 per cent.

Ministry of Tourism
Progress of "Tourist Visa on Arrival" (VOA) Scheme: January – August, 2010
New Delhi: September 9, 2010.
As a facilitative measure to attract more foreign tourists to India, Government has launched a Scheme of "Visa on Arrival" (VoA) from January 2010 for citizens of five countries, viz. Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore, visiting India for tourism purposes.
Total number of VoAs issued during August, 2010 were 506 with country-wise breakup as Finland (39), Japan (189), New Zealand (113), Singapore (148) and Luxemburg (17).
During the period January - August 2010, a total number of 4022 VoAs were issued under this Scheme.
The number of visas issued under this scheme, during January-August 2010 for nationals of the five countries were Singapore (1312), New Zealand (969), Finland (886), Japan (814) and Luxembourg (41).
During the eight month period of January–August, 2010, the maximum number of VoAs were issued at Delhi airport (2127), followed by Mumbai (854), Chennai (833) and Kolkata (208).

Ministry of Water Resources
Depletion in Ground Water Level
New Delhi: September 9, 2010.
The Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) under Ministry of Water Resources has reported that decline in ground water levels in an area is a cumulative effect of ground water withdrawal for all purposes including domestic, industrial as well as agricultural sectors. As per assessment carried out by CGWB in association with the State Ground Water Departments, the share of agriculture in total ground water used in the country is 92%. Remaining 8% is used in domestic and industrial sectors.
The Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) is regulating withdrawal of ground water by new industries/projects in over-exploited, critical and semi-critical areas. The CGWA has issued guidelines for withdrawal of ground water in these areas and requested the State Governments to implement these guidelines. They have 'notified" 43 areas for regulation of ground water development and decentralized their regulatory powers to Deputy Commissioners / District Magistrates / authorised officers for grant of permission for extraction of ground water for drinking and domestic use in these areas. Complaints of violations of norms in notified areas are referred to the concerned authorised officers for taking actions under Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
