AIRPORT ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING

Kolkata, September 14, 2010.

 

The Airport Advisory Committee meeting under the Chairmanship of Hon'ble Minister of State for Urban Development, Govt. of India, Prof. Saugat Roy was held today. The role of the Advisory Committee constituted by the Ministry of Civil Aviation is mainly to have a community participation for passenger facilitation at the Airport.

 

The Committee discussed various issues such as Tout Menace, Pre-Paid Taxi availability, City Side Traffic Management by the Police, congestion at VIP Road and other safety related issues.

 

Airport Director sought the assistance and cooperation from Police to curb the Tout Menace and strict action against unauthorized foreign exchangers present in front of International terminal. He further emphasized the need for effective Traffic management of City Side by the Police up to VIP Road Junction for free flow of passenger vehicles.

 

Municipal Chairman assistance was sought for improving the drainage flow from the outlets.

 

The Committee members were given a presentation about the various development works at the airport till the new integrated terminal complex is put into operation such as In-line X ray, Modification to Security Hold, various facilities like Spa, Music shop, Business Air Terminal for Non-Scheduled Operators.

 

To meet the capacity constraints at international terminal the transit area is proposed to be increased by 300 sqm which can accommodate at least 250 passengers. Further immigration hall in departure area is also proposed to be extended so as to avoid congestion.

 

The members were also informed that Kolkata Airport International Building has got 18th ranking of Bench Marking Survey conducted by the Airport Council International for the Customer Satisfaction Index during the quarter April-June 2010 much ahead of Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai Airports.
