A new survey has found that more than a third of the British people believe the royal wedding should not be funded by taxpayers' money.

The survey commissioned by YouGov poll shows that a total of 36 percent of those questioned said it is not a good use of the public purse.

The YouGov survey also found that 29 percent of people in the UK believe the impending nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton are inappropriate in the current economic climate as the coalition government's spending cuts are gradually beginning to bite. This percentage has increased to 35 percent among the jobless and 41 percent for students.

It also was found that nearly nine out of 10 people do not intend to buy any memorabilia for the wedding of William and Kate.

"Despite the huge amount of public empathy and support for William and Kate as we draw ever closer to their big day, it's extremely hard for the British people to ignore the financial element to the celebrations. It's hard to forget about the current financial climate", said Tom Flack, editor of WalletPop.co.uk.

Another poll for Reuter has found that  only half of all the British people will watch William marry Kate Middleton on April 29th.

Britons have been given a public holiday for the occasion and thousands are expected to line the route from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey or watch from giant screens in pubs and parks.

Those most interested include women (65 percent), people aged 65 and over (65 percent), Conservative voters (64 percent), and people on lower incomes (59 percent).
