TO COMMEMORATE 150TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF KAVIGURU RABINDRANATH TAGORE, INDIAN RAILWAYS RUNNING 'SANSKRITI YATRA' EXHIBITION TRAIN
Kolkata: Thursday, May 06, 2010.
To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Kaviguru Rabindranath Tagore, Indian Railways have decided to run an Exhibition Train showcasing his life and philosophy. This Exhibition Train will be flagged off by Mamata Banerjee, Hon'ble Minister for Railways in the afternoon of Sunday, 9 May, 2010 i.e. the birthday of Kaviguru Rabindranath Tagore.
Five (5) air-conditioned coaches were modified at Liluah Railway Workshop in which life and philosophy of Kaviguru Rabindranath Tagore will be presented. Both exterior and interior decoration of coaches in order to make them suitable for the exhibition were made under the guidance of Smt. Saoli Mitra, Chairperson, Committee on Heritage & Culture, Ministry of Railways.
A commemorative volume, depicting life and creative works of Kaviguru Rabindrnath Tagore will be published on this occasion. Many eminent scholars have contributed in this commemorative volume.
Contents and Themes of the Coaches
· First coach is 'Jibon Smriti' – Life of Kaviguru will be depicted with his reminiscences in the photographs etc.
· 'Gitanjali' – Poems and songs of Kaviguru and other eminent artists.
· 'Jogajog'/'Muktodhara' – Literature of Kaviguru Rabindranath Tagore.
· 'Chitrarekha' – Paintings of Rabindranath Tagore and other eminent artists.
· 'Sesh Katha' - Depiction of the photographs of Kaviguru's last journey,
· 'Smaranika' – Exhibition and sale of handicrafts etc. from Shantiniketan.
Viewing of Exhibition Coaches at Howrah Station on 9/5/2010
Intending visitors may utilize the opportunity of viewing the coaches of the Exhibition Train from 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 hrs (noon) on Sunday, 9 May, 2010 at Platform No. 22 of Howrah station, New Complex, before taking these coaches to Rail Museum after 12.00 hrs (noon) on that day. No entry fee will be charged for viewing these exhibition coaches.
