erstand the medium!
you have a point.....but my point is, we need all kinds of films, styles,genres...Joshy!
Palash Biswas
Earlier I have written open letter to my Film Maker friends. For two exclusive friends Rajiv Kumar and Joshy Joseph I am connected to films this or that way.Being a part of Yugmanch since seventies in Nainital.I personally have some friends in the industry. As a journalist,I have to interact with some of them.

Professionally,I am a working journalist with a humble profile. But it is my father`s activism which connected me with every inch of the country and I am very happy to enjoy love and support from every inch of this country irrespective of my contribution, capacity and role.

I have to address issues related to social realism burning and I try to address them round the clock without caring medium and genre border lines, language barriers and the political ideologies.

It is the changed world, the global village which reduced me to a blogger from a creative writer.Being a professional journalist and having been engaged in professional journalism since 1980 and even before being in Nainital samachar,I have ideas about day to day production and space management in information, literature and culture.

It is my job.

I may not be a filmmaker but the issues my film maker friends and the theatre activists try to address have to be my issues and I am as much as concerned as they are.

It is free market economy and the age of religious blind nationalism under a rigid fascist hegemony who would not allow anything against the forces of market!

The commercial involvement is no problem.

For me,I know,Professionally as a commercial media person,I may extend my life beyond my age.But my activism should not surviVe and it has no survival kit whatsoever.

I am not a Gandhian at all but during my visit Gandhi was reincarnated in my heart and mind as standing face to face Gandhi in Sevagram with theatre activists Raviji from Nagpur and Nisar Ali from Chhattisgargh,I realised that Godse had to kill Gandhi and Godse is not a killer at all,it is a phenomenon against what Gandhi had been.

My Leftist and Ambedkarite friends who had been knowing me were perhaps annoyed that I was stumbled in the long deserted Prathana Sabha.

Gandhi was not representing the Congress Party at all.

I realised,Gandhi represented the people of India across identities and ideologies. He created a bloddy People`s resistance forum unprecedented just trading the path of Gautam Buddha, his message of Panch Sheel, his discipline, his non violence and his quest for equality and social justice.
I saw the sign board about the Pagal Daud.

This bloddy Pagal Daur is the killer of Gandhi, not exactly someone Nathuram Godse!

This bloddy Pagal Daud is the culture of Free Market Economy and Free Market Politics dominated by Billionaire fascist racial hegemony.
Thus, Gandhi has to be killed again and again!

Thus, there must be the temples of Nathuram Godse on earth,Space and under the sea,I am afraid.

The students of Mahatma Gandhi University, specifically those engaged in M.Phil and Phd studies in Cinema and theatre, the Nacha Gammat super fine artist Nisar Ali and his excellent performance and the nostalgia about Safdar Hashmi and my another close to heart Nukkad specialist Shivram from Kota and my memoirs of Nainital during chipko time made me just mad to open the discussion once again.

We should have a Nukkad in Films also!
Sevagram taught me,since Politics has no relevance,we need an anti imperialist People`s from which earlier led us to freedom!

I have closely known Mahashweta Devi irrelevant to her current status and her son who taught us what should be the format of resistance in Art and Culture. The writings by Akhtaruzzaman Ilius from Bangladesh who also died young and had been the closest friend Nabarunda would have been proud of,also pushed me hard to trespass the language barriers as my activist father Pulin Babu used to do countrywide leading agrarian and refugee movement.

Thus, I plan to use the digital and non digital forms to express the voices of the deprived, discriminated, deserted, deported, displaced and so on, the hard core social realism in modern times without which the acts in the field of art and culture is Zero for me.

Joshy Joseph is my dearest film maker just because he voiced the people of North East inflicted day by day with AFSPA.

I rate Joshy a better representative of the North East than some Ratan Thiam! Though I respect his activism in Theatre but I have never seen the shadow of Irome Sharmila in his excellent stage performance which I see in Joshy docus frame to frame.

I am lucky that I worked with Joshy in his Imagenary lines and know his heart and mind.

If you understand the linguistics of market than for the sustenance of the business ,diversification is the need of the hour!

Friends,Safdar Hashmi was the first man ,intelligent enough who carried the theatre right to the heart and mind and did not waited for audience elite!

I am not talking anything original.

I am talking about the nonsense which created habib Tanveer with his Nacha Gammat.

I am talking about SD Burman who played with the waves of Bengal rivers and IPTA artists had done the thing.

I am talking about the experiments made by artist Somnath Hore who was the best reporter and the best economist greater than any Amartya Sen who lodged FIR against the criminal of Bengal famine with his black and white art works.

I am talking about Nabarun Bhattachrya who refused to be a citizen of this valley of death!

I am also talking about an underrated filmmaker whose films deal with the plight of Northeast and its people.

I am also talking about director Meghnadda and his Gadee Lohardga!

I am talking about the experiments by my friends way back in Nainital and the Himalayas led by Girda and Zahur Alam whom my most intimate friend Rajiv Kumar represents.

Joshy was the first person to respond and reject my prposal and I insist it is against the way he directs the film!I have suffered from his innovations and just he tortured me while changing every word and every scene with changing ideas. No one may dare to diversify as Joshy is capable of.

Joshy made me afraid of this tedious medium and I dare not to become a member of  a film unit in future. But Joshy and Rajiv Kumar taught me what the medium is all about and what are its potentials!
Forgive me joshy,I have to share the interactions between you and me,which are not personal at all,to reopen the debate.
I wrote and blogged:
NATYA Swapno Bhang!
Written by  Bibhas Chakrobarti on  Contemporary Bengali Theatre and My point to to revive the centrestage which we surrendered!
Joshy Joseph responded:
DEAR PALASH,
SEND ME YOUR COMPLETE POSTAL ADDRESS,BOTH RES AND OFFICE,INCLUDING YOUR MOB NO.
I WILL SEND YOU MY RECENT FILM ' A POET, A CITY AND A FOOTBALLER'.
LOVE
JOSHY

I replied and shared it with friends:
For Joshy Joseph,my dearest Filmmaker and friend.Shared because it is relevant for the issues we deal.
I am very happy to see that you still read my mail.I mean what I shared with you in my shortest film experience. The form and format you adopted to expose the social realism of AFSPA inflicted Northeats may be a greater breakthrough for us while PRINT is going to become irrelevant. We have got only two medium ,One Cinema and Second,Theatre.
I believe that you have to play greater role in future as screening is the greatest necessity in modern times beyond closed room and only performance should be the only genre which would sustain our freedom as well as creativity.
I am not a Film Maker. But as a non Film Maker,I may perhaps judge your works most objectively.
I have respect for your form, style and aesthetics. But the social realism you deal so exactly with surgical precision has made me your closest friend as well as fan.
I would like to discuss my point with Anand patwardhan and Sanjay Kak and Meghnad and Rajiv Kumar and others who are concerned with the issues I try to address.
My address as follows:

Joshy responded promptly!

i will send you the films........some short ones and a long film by courier
by next week.
see it first.
it's easy to travel when a track is laid.
you have a point.....but my point is, we need all kinds of films,styles,genres...
regards to all at home.
