Interlocutors start Round-2

Arrive In Leh, Meet LAHDC Members

MUDDASIR ALI

Srinagar, Nov 9: The New Delhi-appointed interlocutors on Kashmir Tuesday started their second visit to the state with two members of the team arriving in Ladakh to continue their dialogue process aimed at resolving Kashmir issue.

The members- academician Radha Kumar and Central Information Commissioner MM Ansari- met members of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh. Besides, the team members held deliberations with the leaders of Ladakh Buddhist Association, Anjuman-e-Miandul Islam Ladakh and members of Congress on wide range of issues.

"We met members from Hill Development Council, other organizations and some politicians. They have a unanimous demand for granting union territory status to the region," Kumar told media persons. The team is likely to be joined by its head- noted journalist Dileep Padgaonkar- later this week.

Sources said the interlocutors are scheduled to meet Kargil Hill Development Council members Wednesday after which they would fly to Kashmir and visit different districts in north and south Kashmir to meet various sections of society ahead of their return to New Delhi on November 14.

The team is likely to visit Baramulla Wednesday and held deliberations with traders, lawyers and students.
Later in the day the team would leave for Uri near Line of Control.

On Friday, sources said, the interlocutors would visit Islamabad (Anantnag) to held deliberations with different groups, and on the next day they would leave for Ganderbal. The team is expected to return on Sunday.

"We will call a press conference in Srinagar on November 14 prior to our return," Kumar said.
The interlocutors were appointed by the Government of India on October 13 following a visit of All Party Delegation to the Valley to give feedback to Center for initiating steps to ensure return of normalcy in the Valley which has witnessed almost five months of unrest.

The team started their maiden visit to the state on October 22 during which they traveled to Kashmir and Jammu.

On November 2, the interlocutors, who came under sever criticism for taking a stand on the political nature of Kashmir issue, submitted their report about 6-day visit to Home Minister P Chidambaram. Dileep Padgaonkar had told media persons that Pakistan was a key player for any kind of resolution on Kashmir.
