Note:
1. Till date, samples from 139314 persons have been tested for Influenza A H1N1 in Government Laboratories and a few private Laboratories across the country and 31795(22.8%) of them have been found positive. 2. All 6 cases reported during the day are indigenous cases. 3*. The cumulative number of samples tested positive in Rajasthan* including those tested in the private labs have been reconciled with Health authority of the state and numbers corrected accordingly. 4. Report of one earlier death (Maharashtra-1) have been received from the health authority of the state and is reflected in the cumulative total. .

National Celebrations to Mark the 150TH Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore Begin
New Delhi: May 7, 2010
On the occasion of 149th birth anniversary and beginning of 150th year of Rabindranath Tagore, the Union Ministry of Culture together with the three national academies – Sangeet Natak Akademi, Sahitya Akademi and Lalit Kala Akademi - is launching national celebrations with a three-day event Rabindra Pranati here from 7-9 May 2010
Born 7 May 1861, Rabindranath's genius expressed itself in the entire array of arts represented by the three national academies in support of which these bodies were established by the Government in the mid-1950s. It is also appropriate that this year-long commemoration of Rabindranath Tagore commences at Rabindra Bhavan in New Delhi, which itself was built on the occasion of the Tagore Centenary in 1961 to house the academies.
The Rabindra Pranati programme on 7 May, 2010 features a book exhibition TAGORE'S TREASURSES at 5.30 pm at Sahitya Akademi, renderings of GITANJALI in different Indian languages by eminent poets at 6.30 pm at Meghdoot Theatre III, RABINDRA SANGEET by eminent artists from Kolkata and Delhi at 7.45 pm at Meghdoot Theatre I.
Panel Discussion: RE-EXPLORING TAGORE'S ART is scheduled on 8 May, 2010 at 5 pm at Meghdoot Theatre III, followed by VACHIKANJALI, renderings from Tagore's literary works by leading actors, and VADYANJALI, Instrumental ensemble by Delhi All India Radio's Vadya Vrinda at Meghdoot Theatre I at 7 p.m.
On 9 May, 2010 KAVYANJALI – a Poets' Meet - will be held at 10 am at Sahitya Akademi auditorium and a puppet play on a story by Tagore in Bengali at 5 pm. This will be followed by NRITYANAJLI – dance excerpts based on Tagore's works ¯ by leading choreographers and SWARANJALI – songs of Rabindranath Tagore ¯ by Calcutta Choir, Kolkata, 7 p.m. onwards in Meghdoot Theatre I (open-air). Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Minister of Finance, Government of India will be the Chief Guest at this programme. On this occasion the Finance Minister will also release a special Commemorative Coin on Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore issued by the Government of India on this occasion.

Despite Closure of Airspace in Europe Due to Volcanic Eruption in Iceland, India Registers a Positive Growth in Foreign Tourist Arrivals in April 2010

Ministry of Tourism compiles monthly estimates of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) and Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEE) on the basis of data received from major airports. Following are the important highlights, as regards these two important indicators of tourism sector, for April 2010.
Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs):
· FTAs during the Month of April 2010 were 3.54 lakh as compared to FTAs of 3.48 lakh during the month of April 2009 and 3.61 lakh in April 2008.
· There has been a growth of 1.7% in April 2010 over April 2009 as compared to a negative growth of 3.5% registered in April 2009 over April 2008.
· Despite closure of airspace for more than a week in Europe due to volcanic eruption in Iceland, India registered a positive growth of 1.7% in FTAs in April 2010
· Growth rate in FTAs during April 2010 (1.7%) is lower than that observed during March 2010 (12.9%).
· FTAs during the period January-April 2010 were 19.18 lakh with a growth rate of 10.6%, as compared to the FTAs of 17.35 lakh and a negative growth rate of 11.7% during January-April 2009 over the corresponding period of 2008.
Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEE) from Tourism in Indian Rupee terms and US $ terms
· FEE during the month of April 2010 were Rs.4518 crore as compared to Rs.4061 crore in April 2009 and Rs. 3773 crore in April 2008.
· The growth rate in FEE in Rupee terms in April 2010 over April 2009 was 11.3% as compared to growth rate of 7.6 % in April 2009 over April 2008.
· FEE in US$ terms during the month of April 2010 were US$ 1013 million as compared to FEE of US$ 811 million during the month of April 2009 and US$ 943 million in April 2008.
· The growth rate in FEE in US$ terms in April 2010 over April 2009 was 24.9% as compared to the negative growth of 14.0% in April 2009 over April 2008.
